40 years of legacy - St. Moritz Snow Polo tournament Jan 2025
Dear readers, winter always reminds me of the snow, and the snow somehow reminds me of one of the most significant sports tournament deep in the chic Swiss resort destination: the St. Moritz Snow Polo. This upcoming tournament, which will be held from 24th to 26th Jan 2025, marks its 40th edition on the snowy-white frozen lake of St. Moritz, which brings the snow polo fans and visitors another year of exciting and unique experience, to celebrate the tournament’s legacy along with all participated professional players and their performance, as well as celebrating the wonderful new year in the luxury Alpine winter resort style in St. Moritz.
For this 40th edition, six teams will be competing for the championship, they are team “World Polo League” headed by captain Ms. Melissa Ganzi, one of the most well-known female polo players in the world, team “The Kusnacht Practice” headed by captain Mr. Eduardo Greghi, a dedicated polo player, team “Flexjet” headed by captain Mr. Jonathan Tidswell-Pretorius/Mr. Niclas Johansson, team “Taos” headed by captain Mr, Dillon Bacon, another talented polo player and team owner, team “Mackage” headed by captain Mr. Grant Ganzi, one of the prominent figure in the polo world, and last but not least, team “Azerbaijan – Land of fire” headed by captain Mr. Elchin Jamalli, who previously led the same team in the past.
While all snow polo enthusiasts and visitors are anticipating who will be the champion this time, this edition will also mark an extraordinary moment, to pay tribute to the visionary Founder of this tournament, Mr. Reto Gaudenzi, a native Swiss who was born and bred in the Engadin with the spirit of the Swiss Alps, to keep this tradition and legacy going since 1985, the first snow polo tournament that held in this very spot that year, with players coming from Munich, Paris and Geneva even playing under a snowstorm, not only it didn’t diminish nor discourage the passion and conviction of the Founder and all players, it laid a solid foundation of this legendary championship and gradually attracted some of the most talented and esteemed polo players to participate year after year, to create such a phenomenon and enable us to be part of this luxury sports legacy, to feel excited, empowered and be optimistic, this tournament opens its door to let us experience, and get to know more, about the beauty of St. Moritz, besides its picturesque atmosphere and luxurious winter resort feel, there’s an active side that filled with energy, modernity and style, which makes this famous Swiss resort destination so unique and beautiful.
