Smart blue classic – ‘8 Jours Grande Taille’ by Eberhard & Co.

Dear readers, navy blue is one of my favorite colors when it comes to menswear, its versatility enables one to match with a broad range of colors and patterns, it’s also one of the most classic colors of all time, no wonder why it’s been used in most of the official uniforms, even in men’s tailoring. Since it’s such a classic color, wouldn’t it be nice to make it as part of your accessory too? A luxury timepiece for instance! Which matches your classic navy blue pinstripe suit and polished black shoes and leather goods, to achieve the smart and stylish executive look! If a piece of navy blue timepiece is something that is right up your alley, then you might be interested to check out the new ‘8 Jours Grande Taille’ by the reputed Swiss Watchmaker, Eberhard & Co.

Founded in 1887 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Eberhard & Co. Maison has over 135 years of history of watchmaking, which represents the excellence and innovation in its field. One of their achievements was creating its first wrist chronograph in 1919. Their ‘8 Jours’ collection, on the other hand, is one of their signature collections within the Maison, the latest version ‘Grande Taille’ with new dials have been unveiled in the recent exhibition held at La Maison De L'Horlogerie in Geneva, which marks the Maison’s reinvention of this historic model, and takes it to the future.

For this new ‘Grande Taille’ model, it maintains the classicism and appeal of the essence of the ‘8 Jours’ collection, with a diameter of 41mm, the new dial comes in two different colors: ‘smart blue’ (which looks almost identical to the classic navy blue) and white, both in the luxurious guilloché finishing, external argenté circle with azuré finishing, indexes are in blue Roman numerals, and rhodium sandblasted “leaf‐shaped” hands. Both new models come with the luxurious and matching smart blue alligator strap with the buckle engraved with the Maison’s initial “E&C”, contrasting the sleek steel case, the polished bezel and domed sapphire glass, which makes this timepiece looks timelessly elegant, and luxurious at the same time.

Of course, apart from the classic and luxurious appeal, functionality also count for a piece of luxury timepiece, the movement of this ‘8 Jours Grande Taille’ is made by calibre E & Co. 896 10 ½ " – Basis Peseux 7001, a mechanical hand wound watch with 8 days of power reserve, the power reserve indicated by a scale at nine o'clock position; turning over the timepiece, one can find the sapphire case‐back which opens on the skeleton bridge, its color coated motive in the form of a number “8”, which shows the delicate craftsmanship from inside out. Both new ‘Grande Taille’ timepieces are relatively suitable for either day or night, the versatility for both at work or off-work makes it a great companion for modern day gentlemen, especially for those who strived to look timelessly classic and smart, and have a bit of cultured art collector feel.

In the end, never underestimated the charm of navy blue.
