Dear readers, in the blink of an eye, one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments, Wimbledon, is about to begin. While I may not be a devoted sports enthusiast or a tennis fanatic, what captivates me about this iconic event is its rich heritage in English tennis, the timeless spirit of sportsmanship, and its deep ties to high society, culture, and the art of refined living. Of course, the tennis players are the heart of the tournament — without them, there would be no game. Speaking of tennis players, even as someone who doesn’t follow sports religiously, I’ve found myself utterly charmed by the Swiss tennis legend, Mr. Roger Federer, especially in the years leading up to his retirement. His final match at the 2022 Laver Cup was a poignant moment — his emotional farewell, the outpouring of support from fellow players, and his touching doubles partnership with longtime rival and friend, Mr. Rafael Nadal, left an indelible impression. Those moments inspired me to relive the Swiss tennis legend’s most glorious chapters, both on and off the court.

So when Assouline, the esteemed luxury lifestyle publisher, released a lavish coffee-table book titled “Federer”, which was dedicated to the legend in September 2024, I knew I had to have it. Despite its hefty price tag, I waited patiently until my beloved bookstore restocked it recently, and eventually, I managed to secure a copy about a few weeks ago.

The "Classic Edition" now in my possession is a visual biography crafted over two years in close collaboration with Roger and his wife, Mirka. This exquisite volume assembles never-before-seen photographs, chronicling his journey from childhood to family life and, of course, his storied tennis career. Beyond the stunning imagery, the book also features handwritten reflections from Roger himself, offering intimate insights into his life and legacy in his own words.

Arriving just in time for Wimbledon, this book serves as a beautiful tribute to a man who may no longer play on the tennis court but whose influence endures. One memory that remains vivid is Roger’s appearance at the 2023 Wimbledon as a guest in the Royal Box, dressed impeccably in a tailored beige peak-lapel suit, paired with a deep blue-and-white striped dress shirt and a navy polka-dot tie, he delivered such a masterclass in sophisticated summer elegance; to this day, I remain inspired by his flawless style and effortless poise.

If you, too, admire this tennis icon, this coffee table book deserves a place in your collection. At the very least, let this magnificent volume rekindle your appreciation for his extraordinary career as we prepare for another thrilling Wimbledon season.
